Vision Pro app recommendation - Cassette

You may have heard of the iOS app Cassette, from Devin which provides a nice retro way to watch your videos.

The iOS version is quite nice as it is. The creation of VHS cassettes based on year, favorites, etc., is nice to interact with.

Even better though, a Vision OS version has been recently released and, for me at least, this is the way to use the app.

Take a look at the link above and checkout the screenshots to get a flavor of the Vision OS experience, and you can use it for free to see if you get on with it.

The virtualized basement tv room, the remote, and everything about it look nice. If you would rather not interact with the VHS cassettes, there is more ‘practical’ app window out of view off to the side. As you move your head the remote will move around to position itself in a consistent place. The nice thing is it doesn’t just follow your head’s every move. That would be annoying. It seems to have a sensible amount of lag built in or some sort of algorithm to decide if your head is a new long-term position.

Have a look around the whole room. I’m curious how much of the upstairs is completed though the Vision Pro won’t let me walk around enough to try and look up. My desk is near a wall so I’ll give it a try in a larger room.

I think it even handled the close button in a really nice way. It’s a wooden square X on the coffee table. It just blends into the environment, looks right and makes it obvious what it should do.

If you don’t want the full environment, you can choose your space and it augments the TV and cassette shelf into your room’s space.

Of course the core value of this app will be your videos. If you don’t have any, this app won’t be of much use. However, if you do, this is a fun little environment for watching your videos. I think you owe it yourself to give it a try and see if you feel the same way about it.

If you’re reading this and do not have a Vision Pro, have a look atthe iOS / iPad app. It is still a fun way to watch your videos.
